PED-Positive Farm Samples in US: 8,199
US - The total number of pig farm samples that have tested positive for the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhoea (PED) virus now stands at 8,199 in 30 states, writes Jackie Linden. There were 73 new positive samples in the most recent week reported.The National Animal Health Laboratory Network (NAHLN) reports 73 positive accessions out of 719 tested at 11 veterinary diagnostic labs for the week ending 23 August, according to the American Association of Swine Veterinarians (AASV).
The number of states reported to the NAHLN as having at least one confirmed case of PED remains at 30.

Pig Farm Samples Testing Positive for PEDv: 8,199
The total number of pig farm samples (termed 'laboratory biological accessions' in the official report) that have tested positive for the PED virus (PEDv) since April 2013 now stands at 8,199, which includes 73 for the most recent week and 244 for the month of August so far.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 30,015 farm samples have been tested, of which 24 per cent have tested positive for the virus.

Results by age class
Suckling pigs
For the current month to date, 300 farms have been tested, of which 53 samples or 17 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 4,193 farm samples have been tested, of which 1,799 samples or 38 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Nursery pigs
For the current month to date, 325 farms have been tested, of which 48 samples or 15 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 4,499 farm samples have been tested, of which 1,466 samples or 29 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Grower/finisher pigs
For the current month to date, 417 farms have been tested, of which 27 samples or 6.5 per cent were positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 5,131 farm samples have been tested, of which 1,418 samples or 22 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Sows and boars
For the current month to date, 164 farms have been tested, of which four samples or 2.4 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 2,503 farm samples have been tested, of which 653 samples or 20 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Unknown age class
For the current month to date, 1,322 farms have been tested, of which 119 samples or 9.0 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 14,769 farm samples have been tested, of which 3,068 samples or 20 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Results by state
According to AASV, the total number of states remains at 30.
The total number of positive accessions on this report (up to the week of 17 August) is 8,199, 73 more than the previous week.
Those states with 200 or more positive tests are: Iowa, 2,252; Minnesota, 1,365; Illinois, 914; North Carolina, 804; Oklahoma, 438; Indiana, 423; Ohio, 358; Missouri, 287; Kansas, 274 and Michigan, 218.
For the most recent week (week of 17 August), the state reporting the most new positive tests was Minnesota with 17, followed by Iowa with 13 and Illinois with 10.
Also reporting one or more positive results were California, Colorado, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee and Wyoming.
Pig Samples Testing Positive for PEDv: 31,359
The total number of swine samples (termed 'biological samples' in the official report) since testing began in June 2013 now stands at 31,359.
For the current month to date, 15,946 samples have been tested, of which 1,126 samples or 7.1 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 172,246 samples have been tested, of which 17 per cent tested positive for PEDv.

Environmental Samples Testing Positive for PEDv: 6,981
The total number of environmental samples testing positive since testing began in June 2013 now stands at 6,981.
For the current month to date, 2,023 samples have been tested, of which 189 samples or 9.3 per cent tested positive for PEDv.
Since testing was fully reported in November 2013, 32,295 samples have been tested, of which 20 per cent tested positive.
