Foot and Mouth Cost India INR230 Billion in 2013-14

INDIA - During 2013-14, India suffered losses of 230 billion rupees (23,000 crore) as the result of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD).

This fact has come out in the risk analysis and economic impact assessment of certain major livestock diseases conducted by the National Institute of Veterinary Epidemiology and Disease Informatics (NIVEDI), reports TheHindu.

Animals such as cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, antelope, deer and bison are all susceptible to FMD.
