More ASF Outbreaks Found in Lithuania

LITHUANIA - Three new outbreaks of African Swine Fever (ASF) have been discovered in wild boar along the boarders with Latvia and Belarus.

Iin Utena county, Zarasai district municipality, Zarasai parish, one wild boar (approx. one year, female) was hunted and blood and organs samples were delivered on 19 January to the National Food and Veterinary Risk Assessment Institute in the framework of the national African Swine Fever control programme. On 20 January ASF was confirmed by real-time PCR from blood and organ samples.

In Suvieko parish, also Utena county, one wild boar was hunted and blood and organs samples were tested. The samples were negative to ASF using real-time PCR and ELISA, but were found positive to ASF antibodies using IPT (indirect immunoperoxidase technique).

In Alytus county, Varena district municipality, Marcinkonys parish, on 10 January, one wild boar was hunted (a one year-old male), in Part II, in the area under restrictions established in accordance with the Annex to Commission Implementing Decision 2014/709/EU, 4 km from the border with Belarus.

The result of real-time PCR test performed was negative for ASF, but ELISA and IPT (indirect immunoperoxidase technique) performed from blood have been found positive to ASF antibodies.
