New Video Helps Pig Producers Control PRRS
GLOBAL - To help vets and producers control Porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRS), veterinary pharmaceutical company, HIPRA has issued the first of a series of educational videos.More than 25 years after its appearance, PRRS continues to be the most challenging and costly disease affecting pig production.
In North America alone, PRRS costs the industry $1 billion every year.
The video provides information on the history of PRRS, how the virus spreads and the path to successful control.
In the video it states that when tackling the infection it is important to identify the type of PRRS strain as it can be homologous or heterologous and therefore defines where the infection has come from.
Following on from this, the successful control of PRRS uses four essential pillars - monitoring, biosecurity, gilt management and immunization.
With this new tool HIPRA is consolidating its commitment to PRRS control and reinforcing its positioning as reference in prevention for Animal Health
