EU Pig Prices: Quotations Are Steady
EU - This current week, the European pig slaughter market appears steady altogether. After the German quotation was not able to maintain the previous price increases two weeks ago, and was therefore corrected considerably downward, the European market has got back to steady again.
Apart from in Germany, the pig slaughter prices have also slid down in many other countries but stabilised again last week.
The quantities of live pigs on offer were not too plentiful across the borders. This may be attributed to the winter temperatures. The price-setting factor ostensibly is the scarce supply situation on the live-animals market, so the meat business – which is calm for seasonal reasons – rather is of minor importance.
Trend for the German market:
Currently, the domestic pigs-mature-for-slaughter market is characterised by an exceptional brisk demand for pigs for slaughter. The marketers must make intense efforts to fill their order books at the beginning of the week in particular. From today’s point of view, the prices are expected to develop in a clearly positive way because of the scarce quantities on offer in the live-animals market.
