On Monday, Danish Crown presented a growth package with the clear aim of securing more slaughter pigs for the group’s Danish slaughterhouses. Employees will start noticing the effects of the package from 1 September, when members of Bonusgrisen start supplying Danish Crown.

"Our members really like Danish Crown as a company. Basically, they prefer to supply their animals to a Danish cooperative, where the ownership structure makes it possible to have a say in the decision-making. At the same time, I will make no secret of the fact that Danish Crown’s new strategy has strengthened the belief in the company among our members," says Morten Biel Hansen, who is a member of the Board of Directors in Bonusgrisen and CEO of the sister company B2B Bonus.

Bonusgrisen was founded in 2007 with the aim of ensuring that members get the best possible price for their breeding animals, weaners, sows and slaughter pigs. Bonusgrisen handles about 2 million pigs a year, of which approx. half are exported as weaners. The members that supply slaughter pigs will now each become cooperative members of Danish Crown, while at the same time remaining members of Bonusgrisen.

As new Danish Crown suppliers, Bonusgrisen’s members will be offered one year of free advice, and at the same time be entitled to a financial contribution of DKK 0.30 per kg.

"In continuation of our work with the 4WD strategy, Danish Crown’s Board of Directors appointed a committee which was tasked with coming up with suggestions on how to best increase the supply of slaughter pigs. One of the results is a growth package where among other a financial contribution is offered to new cooperative members. All Danish Crowns owners and 8,000 employees in Denmark benefit from that," says Søren F. Eriksen, CEO in Danish Crown Pork.

Expectations are that the members of Bonusgrisen will supply Danish Crown with about 600,000 slaughter pigs in the first year alone.
