Russia confirms foot-and-mouth disease on farm in the far east

According to reporting from Reuters, Russia has registered an outbreak of food-and-mouth disease (FMD) in pigs and cattle on a farm in the eastern Zabaikalsk region. The statement, issued early on Thursday 30 January, said the disease was found in 58 cattle and 18 pigs. The infected animals have been culled.

This is not the first outbreak of FMD in this region – a previous outbreak was reported in March 2019.
