According to reporting in the National Hog Farmer, The American Association of Swine Veterinarians will hold its Annual Meeting in Atlanta from March 7 to 10. Since the COVID-19 epidemic is rapidly evolving, AASV is following CDC guidelines and will continue to monitor for any changes in recommendations.

AASV reaffirmed the importance of attendee health and the need for everyday precautions to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, influenza and other infectious diseases. These precautions include:

  • Stay home when you are sick
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds
  • If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser with at least 60 percent alcohol
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands
  • Get an annual influenza vaccine as recommended by the CDC

The AASV has instituted a no-handshake zone for the Annual Meeting but says that “forearm bumps” are good substitutes.
