CME update: lean hog futures close weaker

US lean hog futures closed weaker, extending a recent series of losses.

Reuters reports that lean hog futures slipped 0.050 cent to close at 53.600 cents per pound.

Traders report that large supplies continue to hang over the market.

Meatpackers slaughtered an estimated 486,000 hogs on 31 August, up from 469,000 a week earlier, according to USDA data.
