To support the Dominican Republic's fight against African swine fever (ASF), the People's Republic of China government donated $100,000 (more than 5.7 million pesos) to collaborate with the fight against the disease that threatens the local swine population.

The donation was made directly to the Ministry of Agriculture, the institution in charge of the problem.

These resources will strengthen the Program for the "Control and Eradication of ASF" executed by the Ministry of Agriculture and other agricultural agencies nationwide, in support of pig producers.

The funds were delivered in a ceremony held at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China, which was also attended by the Minister of Agriculture, Limber Cruz and the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China, Zhang Run; the administrator of Bagrícola, Fernando Durán; the president of the House of China, Félix Aracena; President of the Dominican-Chinese Friendship Group of the Chamber of Deputies, Betty Gerónimo Santana; Rosa Ng, Former representative of the Commercial Office of the Dominican Republic in China; Chinese businessmen and officials of the Ministry of Agriculture.

Minister Limber Cruz, thanking the donation, said that since he arrived at that ministry he received the friendly hand of the People's Republic of China.

“It is my second reception in a period of barely seven or eight months, when they donated a sugar cane harvesting machine to us in San Pedro de Macorís… and now quickly, as soon as the spread of the African Swine Fever was known, we received $100,000 to cushion the effects that this terrible disease has brought with it ".

For his part, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Run affirmed that although the two countries are separated by vast oceans, the suffering of African Swine Fever (ASF) in the DR touches the hearts of the Chinese government and people. President Xi Jinping pointed out that humanity is a comprehensive community and planet Earth is its only home. Faced with common challenges, no person or country is saved alone.

The only way out is to work together in harmony and in common agreement. In this way, the Chinese side has decided to donate this fund to the Ministry of Agriculture for the fight against this epidemic. On the other hand, the Chinese side is willing to share experience and technology. Through bilateral channels and international organizations, the Chinese side will provide support within its capacity according to the needs of the Dominican side.
