Print This Page ACMC Tip: Hospital Pen Management
UK - For good welfare, proper hospital-pen management is essential at all times.
However, even with the current price of feed, it makes sense to reassess the performance of individual pigs in the hospital pen regularly and rigorously, says Paul Thompson, veterinary consultant to pig-breeding company, ACMC Ltd.
If these pigs are not likely to make pork weight, then early euthanasia is the best option. It is therefore very important to have a recording system that shows how long individual pigs have been in the kept in the hospital pen.
