Statistics Canada just released its 1 January Swine Inventory Report. When we combine December USDA Hogs and Pigs Report under 60 lbs with Canada’s under 20 kg (44 lbs) the results are extraordinary.
Two million less small pigs compared to a year ago, or about 10 weeks of production.
That’s, give or take, 200,000 less hogs per week going to market year on year. Is there any wonder so many finishers are empty?
Gentlemen, start your engines. Come about mid April to about 1 May an extraordinary decrease in year over year marketings is going to happen. 90¢ lean hogs are coming around the track. Buckle up!
