National Pig Association - The voice of the UK pig industry

In future, pig producers will be required to report their salmonella status every time they send pigs for slaughter. They will be fined whenever salmonella levels are too high.

The goal is to reduce salmonella in fresh meat to one percent or less by 2013. The current target is a reduction to 1.2 per cent. During the first five months of last yeat the occurrence was 1.5 per cent.
