Tyson Indiana Pork Plant Slaughter Still Suspended

"Slaughter production remains suspended due to fire damage," Tyson spokesman Gary Mickelson said yesterday. "It currently appears it could be this late this week or early next week before we're able to resume slaughter operations."

The plant has a daily slaughter capacity of about 15,000 hogs, reports Reuters.

The roof has been repaired and Tyson is in the process of replacing equipment and doing electrical rewiring.

Pork processing resumed on Saturday, "After receiving approval to proceed from USDA inspectors, and expect some processing operations to continue throughout this week," he said.
