Swiss pigs will have to adapt to life as vegetarians, according to World Radio of Switzerland. Their traditional delicacy of slop, otherwise known as kitchen waste and leftovers, has been banned.

Switzerland agreed with the EU to outlaw the meat-containing swill as it could be potentially dangerous. If a pig eats meat that is infected with a disease, such as foot and mouth disease (FMD), it will keep being passed on. While the disease does not infect humans, it will affect animals.

Swill containing meat has been banned in the EU since 2006.
