Pig Pro to Make Recording Staff Skills Simple and Robust

23 January 2017

British Pig Executive

UK - The AHDB is planning to launch a new training and development web-based tool for the pig industry later this year – providing farmers with a more simple and flexible way of recording staff skills.

Accessed through AHDB’s Pig Hub, the new system is the result of a 12-month consultation with industry members and will be an alternative to PIPR – the Pig Industry Professional Register.

According to feedback from the consultation, a more robust and flexible system is needed to enable producers to register and recognise the development and training of their workforce.

AHDB’s Skills Development Officer Samantha Bowsher said: “Over the years, PIPR has proved to be a valuable tool for farmers, but the industry has moved on and this new system is better suited to the changing needs of the pig industry.

“As a result of our ongoing consultation with farmers in trying to gauge what they need to ensure an efficient and easily accessible system for recording their training, AHDB has developed Pig Pro. We are confident this new system will be welcomed by the industry and will prove to be a valuable recording tool for businesses of all sizes.”

Unlike PIPR, which is run by City & Guilds, Pig Pro won’t operate on a CPD point scoring system and will allow users to keep a development record throughout their career and have more control over their data.

Samantha added: “It is incredibly important to recognise the professionalism within the pig industry and we want to ensure that the hard work and high standards of our members is being recorded in an efficient and accessible way.

“These days there is a real demand for members of the pig farming industry to demonstrate competence to groups such as assurance schemes and this one-stop shop will allow you to access all relevant data and recordings needed.”

Pig Pro is scheduled to go live in September.
