THE VOICE OF THE UK PIG INDUSTRY

NPA is active on members' behalf in Brussels & Whitehall, and with processors, supermarkets & caterers – fighting for the growth and pros-perity of the UK pig industry.

Some supermarkets have taken to demanding the right to carry out spot checks on farms and this raises the question of whether producers who are already members of the Assured British Pigs scheme should welcome further inspection, or oppose it.

"Each producer must reach his or her own decision," advised Assured British Pigs chairman Richard Campbell, "but they are your customers and they are always free to buy their pigs elsewhere if you don't agree to their request."

Southwest producer Nick Green told NPA Producer Group that in his view producers should have an open door policy within the constraints of biosecurity.
