THE VOICE OF THE UK PIG INDUSTRY

NPA is active on members' behalf in Brussels & Whitehall, and with processors, supermarkets & caterers – fighting for the growth and pros-perity of the UK pig industry.

The survey indicates that only ten percent of ham on supermarket shelves is British, as identified by the Quality Standard Mark.

"The NPA has taken on the task of working with major retailers to urge them not only to stock British pork, bacon and ham, but also to identify it in-store as British and to apply the British Meat Quality Standard Mark. The Mark is an assurance that the product has met stringent quality standards that are independently audited," he tells supermarket executives in his letter.

"I urge you to commit wholeheartedly to the use of the Quality Standard Mark on-pack across your pork, bacon and ham ranges. I trust we can count on your increased support for our campaign and that we shall see a greater use of the Quality Standard Mark throughout your product range.

"Our next in-store survey is scheduled to take place in June and I shall report back then on progress."
