THAILAND - If the European Union succeeds in raising animal welfare and “traceability“ issues during the next round of World Trade Organisation (WTO) discussions, the cost of many Thai exports could double, a British professor said yesterday. If the WTO accepts the EU’s proposals, Thai pig exporters would have to adjust their pig husbandry techniques to meet European requirements and standards, said Professor Julian Wiseman, a lecturer at the University of Nottingham.
