US and Canadian Officials Continue to Discuss Carbadox Ban

US - Nick Giordano, international trade counsel for the National Pork Producers Council in Washington, DC, is hopeful that continued talks between U.S. and Canadian officials will prompt Health Canada to conclude that the usage of carbadox in U.S. swine poses no health risk to Canadian consumers.

Canada currently ranks as the third largest importer of U.S. pork products behind Mexico and Japan. Exports to Canada were valued at $395.6 million in 2005. If approved, the ban on pork products from pigs treated with carbadox would take effect next year.
