THAILAND - Thailand's pork exports are projected to grow by 9% to 12,000 tonnes this year, because of rising demand from Japan.

Boonpeng Santiwattanatham, President of the Processors for Exporting Association said yesterday that Japan was the main export market, with volume jumping by 23 per cent to 2,033 tonnes in the first quarter.

However, exports to Hong Kong dropped by 7 per cent becasue of the government launched health restrictions.

The association also plans to explore new market opportunities in Singapore, South Korea and Europe.
