The Pork Checkoff will be the official protein sponsor of 2008 Taste of the Nation® events - the 20th anniversary of the initiative. Activities in more than 55 cities across the United States and Canada will coincide with the campaign, which has be applauded as the first-ever culinary benefit in the nation and a model for fundraisers throughout the US.

Taste of the Nation has raised more than $70 million, and has grown significantly during the past 20 years. It brings together thousands of chefs from across the country and Canada to help end childhood hunger.

Natural Partnership

National Pork Board president said Lynn Harrison said that America’s pork producers help to feed the world, so it was a natural fit for NPB to work with Share Our Strength in its vision of ending childhood hunger.

"Share our Strength’s solid reputation with chefs and food professionals inspired us to look at how we could work together on a local level," he added.

Each spring and summer, the nation’s hottest chefs and mixologists donate their time, talent and passion at Taste of the Nation events with one goal in mind: to raise the critical funds needed to end childhood hunger.

"This is a great opportunity to put pork in front of high profile chefs and to provide top quality pork eating experiences to key media and consumer influencers," said Pamela Johnson, director of consumer marketing for the Pork Checkoff.

Substantial Support

The Pork Checkoff will support these events through media relations efforts and on-site participation showcasing trend-setting recipes and a variety of pork products. The pork products used by event chefs will be generously donated by Vande Rose Farms of Oskaloosa, Iowa in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston and New Orleans. Grateful Growers Farms of Denver, N.C. will donate pork in Charlotte.

"We are working on extending this national sponsorship to the local level to support local Share Our Strength efforts and work with local culinary professionals to promote pork and pork production," said Johnson.
