Producers from Ontario, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island are not eligible for the second phase, because they surpassed the 10% provincial breeding herd reduction target that’s based on Jan. 1, 2008 Statistics Canada inventory numbers. By May 14, Ontario had culled 10.4% of its breeding herd, Nova Scotia had culled 46.9% and PEI had culled 37.5%.

According to the Canadian Pork Council, if funds were still available after May 21, the program would move into the third and final phase. It will accept applications from producers in all provinces with 'date sent' records ranging from April 14, 2008 to Sept. 1, 2008 or until all funds have been allocated.
