UAE Bans Imports of Pork

UNITED ARAB EMIRATES - UAE has banned the import of pork products from all countries following the outbreak of H1N1 flu.

The Government of the UAE has banned imports of pork products from all countries in response to media reports covering the detection of influenza A H1N1 in several countries including the United States, according to the latest GAIN report from USDA Foreign Agricultural Service.

Prior to the ban, the UAE allowed imports of pork products for sale in special retail areas for non-Muslims.

US exports of pork to the UAE were valued at $600,000 in 2008.
