The town of Young in south-west NSW is reeling following the shock closure of Burrangong Meat Processors, reports ABC.

The abattoir was Young's biggest employer. The company was placed into receivership late on 2 February, leaving up to 300 employees without jobs.

The company says the collapse is due to several factors, including a potential sale to a Chinese investor falling through.

The sudden closure of the plant sent shock waves through the town.
