PIC and GFS Partnership Grows to 400 Boars

GERMANY - After signing of the contract in December 2009 and following completion of building regulations in March 2010, the joint venture between GFS (Genossenschaft zur Förderung der Schweineproduktion) and PIC Deutschland (PIC) began construction of an AI-stud in Saxony-Anhalt.

In the early summer, the stud will be stocked exclusively with PIC GP and PIC Parent AI-boars. GFS, the market leader in semen production, will have 20 per cent of its capacity taken up by PIC-genetics.

This latest project fits well the companies’ strategy and follows excellent experience gained with the existing coop-studs "Herringer Heide" in North-Rhine Westphalia and "Fischbeck", Saxony-Anhalt. In future, the existing capabilities and competences shall be used in a synergetic way also in the East German states.

PIC and GFS will also focus on their specific competences. “This is an extraordinary and well-proven cooperation between a breeding company and an AI-organisation. We learnt very much from each other. Both companies have the same strategy aiming for profitable growth,” said Dr Hottelmann, from the board of directors at GFS.

With a clear division of duties the winners of this cooperation will be the customers. They will gain more profit due to PIC's focus on the genetic know-how and the GFS’s professionalism in the field of semen production and customers’ service.
