UK Slaughter Statistics - August 2010
UK - UK clean pig slaughterings were one per cent higher than in July 2009 at 855,000 head. Pig meat production was 69,000 tonnes in July 2010, a rise of one per cent from the same month a year earlier.The number of clean pigs sent for slaughter in July 2010 was 855,000 compared to 685,000 in June and 694,000 in May. The number of sows and boars sent for slaughter in July has not yet been revealed, while in May and June, the slaughter figures stand at 16,000 and 15,000 respectively. July was a five-week month.
The average slaughter weights for clean pigs in May, June and July were 78.4kg, 77.7kg and 76.7kg, respectively. As for sows and boars, the average carcass weights were 148.8kg in July, 156.2kg in June and 154.5kg in May.
Overall, the UK produced 69,000 tonnes of pig meat in July compared to 56,000 tonnes in June and 57,000 tonnes in May.
