Classical Swine Fever in Vladimir Oblast

RUSSIA - Classical Swine Fever has been found in a pig in in the Kovrov Rayon of the Vladimir Oblast in Russia.

The positive results for classical swine fever were obtained by the All-Russian Research Institute of Veterinary Virology and Microbiology (GNU VNIIVViM) in the course of testing pathological material taken from a pig found dead in backyard farm "OAO Kovrovski lesokombinat" in Melehovo village.

The pig population was 86 pigs and by the time disease was diagnosed, 74 pigs had died, the Russian veterinary and food safety authority, Rosselkhoznador reports.

Measures aimed at eradication of the foci of infection have been taken and an epizootological investigation is being carried out.
