New ASF Outbreak In Krasnodar Krai

RUSSIA - The specialists of the Russian food safety authority Rosselkhoznadzor Administration for Krasnodar Krai and Republic of Adygeya found seven carcases of four to six month old piglets at different stages of decomposition in the forest belt near the Settlement of Sokolovskoye, Gulkevichsky Rayon, Krasnodar Krai.

The carcases were disposed by burning and buried at the place of detection.

Based on the investigation results it became clear that the dead piglets had been removed from the private backyard located in the Settlement of Sokolovskoye.

The population of pigs in the backyard consisted of 33 animals, 27 animals of which died and six pigs with ASF clinical signs were bloodlessly slaughtered and disposed by burning. In the pathological material collected from the dead animals the genetic material of ASF virus was detected.

The measures according to the Instruction on Measures for ASF Prevention and Eradication have been taken, the quarantine imposed and epidemic investigation is being carried out into the outbreak.

The Settlement of Sokolovskoye is located 14 km from the town of Gulkevichi. The population of pigs in the Risk Zone 1 totals 2,665 animals.
