A total of 9200 sows will be tagged with a special Caisley ear tag that collects tissue and, at the same time, leaves a number in the ear so it is possible to identify the sow for phenotyping purposes.

Over the past year TOPIGS has already sampled a large number of animals. GWAS for about 5000 animals has already been done with a 60k chip. These gave highly accurate breeding values, thanks to the company's large phenotypic dataset.
