BIVI Adds Regional Sales Manager, Veterinarian to Swine Division

US - Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. (BIVI), announces the addition of two new employees to its Swine Division. Gregory Lewis joins the company as regional sales manager and Nathan Schaefer, DVM, has been hired as professional services veterinarian. Both joined the company in April.

Mr Lewis was area sales manager for Land O’ Lakes for the past two years. Prior to Land O’ Lakes, he spent 19 years in various sales management and marketing positions with Alpharma. In his new role at BIVI, Mr Lewis will lead a team of sales representatives. He has a bachelor of science degree in business administration from Emporia State University and an MBA from Baker University.

“Greg has a proven track record of successfully leading a sales team and implementing customer service programs,” said Sean O’Hare, director of swine sales for BIVI. “His extensive sales experience and strong passion for the swine industry will help bring additional solutions to our swine customers.”

Dr Nathan Schaefer spent two and a half years as a swine production veterinarian for Iowa Select Farms in Iowa Falls, Iowa, where he oversaw the health management of the company’s farrow-to-wean and gilt development programs. During veterinary school, Dr Schaefer spent three years working in the University of Minnesota Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

In addition, he has been very active in pork industry and professional swine veterinary leadership activities and currently serves on the National Pork Board Producer/Public Health and Workplace Safety Committee.

Dr Schaefer received his bachelor of science degree and DVM from the University of Minnesota and will continue to live in Ames, Iowa. In his new role with BIVI, he will provide veterinary support to sales representatives and key swine customers in Iowa, Minnesota and the Upper Midwest.

Dr Tom Wetzell, BIVI regional manager, professional services veterinarian, said Dr Schaefer’s swine production and disease diagnostic experience will be an asset in helping producers and veterinarians manage difficult swine disease challenges. “Nathan’s work as a veterinarian in a large integrated swine production system and conducting diagnostics give him a unique perspective in helping our customers implement effective herd health programs.”
