The seminar, which runs from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., will cover swine health at exhibitions and sales. The seminar is designed for pork producers (commercial and exhibitors), NDSU Extension agents, veterinarians, fair and sale organisers and swine superintendents, youth exhibitors, 4-H and FFA leaders, and anyone else who wants information on disease prevention in swine at fairs and sales.

Speakers will focus on the PEDv, which has killed more than five million piglets since it was discovered in the US in April 2013, and swine health requirements in North Dakota. A panel will discuss the precautions producers and exhibitors should take when considering whether to send pigs to a fair or sale. The panels also will discuss what steps exhibition and sale organizers and officials should take to keep their events disease-free and how to handle ill swine.

Presenters will include NDSU Extension swine specialist David Newman, NDSU Extension livestock stewardship specialist Gerald Stokka and veterinarians from the state veterinarian’s office.
