Small meat processors get $80M in US federal support
Funding covers overtime fee reductions, processing expansion grants
Small meat and poultry processors in the US will benefit from $80 million in support, including $20 million in overtime fee reductions and $60 million through the Meat and Poultry Processing Expansion Programme, FSIS administrator Justin Ransom said at the American Association of Meat Processors convention in Milwaukee on July 9.
Ransom also highlighted improvements to the appeals process and a plain-language rewrite of agency policies as part of the Department's Small Processors Action Plan, announced in June by agriculture secretary Brooke Rollins. T
he recently announced SPUR programme will provide additional support for small and mid-sized beef processing establishments.
