Latvia Reports 23 Cases of Classical Swine Fever in Wild Boar

LATVIA - A total of 23 sub-clinical outbreaks for Classical Swine Fever have been reported in wild boar between July and December 2013, all in the border area with Belarus.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 8 dated 15 April to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report outlines the finding of 23 wild boar that tested positive for Classical Swine Fever between 26 July and 20 December 2013. All were in one of three counties - Dagdas, Kraslavas and Zilupes - which are in the south-east of the country, near the border with Belarus.

Since May 2013, 6,000 wild boar have been given an oral vaccination against the virus in the affected area.
