Colombia Reports New Outbreaks of Classical Swine Fever
COLOMBIA - There were three new outbreaks of classical swine fever in the north of the country in April, all in small backyard pig herds.

It outlines three outbreaks of classical swine fever starting between 11 and 27 April in the regions of Cesar, Magdalena and Bolivar. All outbreaks were in backyard or village herds; 60 pigs were affected in total, 25 showed symptoms and 12 died. In each outbreak, vaccination had ceased some time before the outbreaks.
According to the report, active epidemiological surveillance is carried out exhaustively in a 5-km radius zone around the outbreak and in a 5-km surveillance zone; daily follow-up inspections are done and no other sick animals have been found in the monitored areas. Vaccination has forbidden in this zone since 31 May 2013.
