BELGIUM - Brussels has extended its controls on imports of live pigs from the States and Canada until October next year, because of continued concerns about Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED).

The rules, imposed in July this year, initially until January, require imports of live pigs to be accompanied by a certificate stating the pigs are PEDv-free and have not been anywhere near a PEDv infection.

The extended regulation notes advice from the European Food Safety Authority that animals, their faeces, feed and objects contaminated with faeces are capable of transmitting the virus.
