Romanian Meat Processor to Double Output Capacity by 2017

ROMANIA - Romanian meat processor Vascar has announced plans to double its output capacity by 2017 and reach sales revenues of some RON 130 million (€29.2 million). The company specialises in processed pork meat products, and currently, as much as 65 per cent of its sales are generated by sausages.

Furthermore, the planned increase in Vascar’s meat processing capacity is to be accompanied by the expansion by the company’s existing retail network of 20 stores in Romania by five new outlets per year, according to senior company representatives.

"We have 20 stores and a foreign branch in Moldova," Vlad Ciuburciu, the marketing director at Vascar, told local business daily Ziarul Financiar.

"We have a wide product range which includes canned meat products and sausages. A part of Vascar’s product is also intended for export sales."

More specifically, the company's portfolio comprises salami, pates, frankfurters and other processed pork meat products.

In addition to Vascar’s own retail network in the Romanian market, Vascar’s products are available at some 10,000 retail outlets across the country. The meat processor owns a facility located in Vaslui, in Romania’s north-eastern part.

"Our processing facility in Vaslui has more than 300 employees," said Ciuburciu.

In 2014, the Romanian firm posted revenues of about RON 60 million (€13.5 million), according to data released by Vascar. This year, company representatives estimate that the firm’s revenues could climb to some RON 65 million (€14.6 million) which would represent an increase of more than 8.3 per cent compared with Vascar's sales a year earlier.

The meat processing company is owned by the Ciuburciu family.
