Vissan Slashes Pork Prices to Boost Sales

VIET NAM - Several southern retailers are launching promotional offers to boost the sale of pork amid slump in prices, which have hit farmers hard recently.

Viet Nam news reports that foodstuff processor Vissan on Sunday announced a discount programme of up to 49 per cent on the price of type-1 VietGap pork (best quality) at its supermarkets until yesterday (15 June).

Accordingly, pork prices will fluctuate from VNĐ40,000 (US$1.75) to VNĐ80,000 per kilogramme.

At the same time, prices of other types of pork have also been reduced to around VNĐ25,500 to VNĐ36,000 per kilogramme.

From 6-10 June, the company implemented a discount programme of 30 per cent to 32 per cent on type-1 pork, which recorded a sales volume of 530,000 tonnes, up by 51 per cent on an average, compared with sales on normal days.

The promotional programme will be implemented at most store chains of Vissan, Saigon Co.op, Coopfood, Vinmart, Satrafoods, Aeon Citimart, Giant, Auchan, Cocomart, Queenland mart, HQC mart and Mỹ Đức.

Pork retailer An Hạ Company also slashed meat prices.

According to Nguyễn Thị Hồng Thắm, director of An Hạ Company, the company added only VNĐ100,000 for profit on each pig to calculate the selling prices. An Hạ Company also planned to maintain its cheap pork programme regularly.
