They were introduced to modern pig farming techniques, with a focus on closed-house systems. Accompanying them were five staff members from Boehringer Ingelheim who had initiated and co-organised the event. Also present were students pursuing either PhD or master’s degrees in veterinary medicine, and their supervisor, Dr Ooi from University Putra Malaysia (UPM).

The day started with a welcome address by Mr Kok Fatt Chin, Joint Managing Director of Big Dutchman Asia, followed by a presentation by Mr Philipp Prang, an expert in sustainable manure solutions. Area Sales Manager Tomalso Li gave a comprehensive presentation on closed-house concepts for modern pig farming.

The young farmers showed much interest and asked many questions regarding this topic. They later took a lunch break before concluding the closed-house concept presentation. The session ended after a presentation by Mr Gunasegaran on the solar power system SUNFarm. The group concluded the day with a tour of the Big Dutchman office and a short stroll to the warehouse, where a farrowing pen was set up for the visitors to view.
