According to reporting in the Manila Times, the Boliney Municipal Agriculture Office (MAO) found initial evidence of the virus in Abra in mid-April, after seven ASF-infected pigs were reported in Boliney, a provincial town. Outbreaks of African swine fever were also reported in Malibcong, Daguioman and Tineg.

The MAO believes that the virus spread in April after a resident of the town brought home a wild boar. Boliney’s Mayor, Benido Balao-as, has temporarily prohibited hunting within the town, and banned the transportation of pig meat.

“We are also implementing biosecurity measures like depopulation, disinfection and regular reporting through barangay officials and the local government unit,” Balao-as said.

Animal health authorities believe that there are ASF cases in both wild and domestic pigs in different areas of the towns.
