Brazilian live pig quotations rose steeply in early February; however, not enough to boost the monthly average compared to January, since price drops registered in this second fortnight were more significant, according to a recent market report from Cepea.

Players surveyed by Cepea say that the number of ready-to-slaughter animals is high. This fact and the lower demand for pork meat, especially in the end-of-the-month period, pressed down values of live pigs.

In the SP-5 region (Bragança Paulista, Campinas, Piracicaba, São Paulo and Sorocaba), the average price for live pigs moved down 0.3% from January to February, closing at BRL 6.64/kg. As for the meat, prices for special pork carcass decreased 0.9% in the same comparison, averaging BRL 9.64/kg in the wholesale market of the Greater São Paulo.
