Global grain trader Archer-Daniels-Midland (ADM) said on Tuesday a manufacturing issue caused harmful levels of various minerals to be present in certain animal feed products and led to their subsequent recall, reported Reuters. 

ADM shares were down 1.1% in morning trade.

On Monday, the global grain trader expanded the product recalls announced earlier this year due to elevated levels of magnesium, sodium, calcium, chloride and/or phosphorus.

ADM Animal Nutrition's prior two recalls covered chicken, swine and rabbit feed products. The latest expansion covers 55 additional products and includes feeds for horses, lambs and llamas.

"We have been working closely with US FDA regarding a manufacturing issue that resulted in some minerals being present in affected feeds at levels that are different from what is shown on the product label," ADM told Reuters in an emailed statement.

"The issue has since been corrected, and we are working diligently to recall all product that has been impacted."

No illnesses have been reported to date, the company said.
