EU pork exports remained virtually unchanged in 2024, with 4.264 million tonnes shipped globally—just 0.4% more than in 2023, according to a recent market report from German pig group ISN who cited the European Commission as its source. While far below the 6-million-tonne highs seen in 2020 and 2021, stable demand in key markets helped sustain trade levels.

China remained the top buyer but slashed imports by 3.1% to 1.12 million tonnes, a sharp drop from the 2020 peak of 3.34 million tonnes during its African swine fever crisis. Exports to the UK also declined slightly, down 0.7% to 895,700 tonnes.

Meanwhile, the Philippines surged to become the third-largest destination, increasing imports by 26.1% to 366,500 tonnes. South Korea, Vietnam, and the United States also posted solid gains, with US imports jumping 11.6% to 113,900 tonnes.

Despite steady exports, EU pork imports dipped 3.8% year over year, largely due to lower volumes from the UK.
