Brazil pork prices dip in April but remain higher year-over-year
Weaker domestic demand weighs on pricesAverage prices for live pigs and pork meat in Brazil declined from March to April, driven by sluggish demand from the processing industry, according to a recent market report from Cepea.
Despite the recent drop, values remain well above year-ago levels, supported by firm demand and restricted supply over the past year.
Brazil’s export performance is providing a bright spot for the sector. Daily average shipments of in natura pork reached 5.8 thousand tons during the first 17 business days of April, up 7.8% from March and a notable 32.4% compared to April 2024.
If this pace holds, Brazil’s pork exports could reach 122.4 thousand tons by month-end—setting a new monthly record in the Secex series, which dates back to 1997.
