Brazilian pork exports hit January record - ABPA

Shipments rise 9.7%, revenue up 13.6%

Brazil exported 116,300 tonnes of fresh and processed pork in January, a record for the month and up 9.7% from 106,000 tonnes a year earlier, according to the Brazilian Association of Animal Protein (ABPA).

Export revenue reached US$270.2 million, a 13.6% increase from US$238 million in January 2025, also marking a record for the month.

The Philippines remained the top destination, importing 37,400 tonnes, up 91% from a year earlier.

Japan imported 12,900 tonnes, an increase of 58%, followed by Hong Kong with 8,800 tonnes, down 7%. China imported 8,300 tonnes, a decrease of 58%. Shipments to Chile totalled 7,700 tonnes, unchanged from last year, while Singapore received 5,500 tonnes, down 16%.

Uruguay imported 3,700 tonnes, up 1%, and Ivory Coast received 3,400 tonnes, up 3%. Exports to Mexico rose 133% to 3,000 tonnes, while shipments to Argentina fell 37% to 2,800 tonnes.

Santa Catarina was the leading exporting state, shipping 56,500 tonnes in January, down 2.3%. Rio Grande do Sul exported 29,000 tonnes, up 34.4%, followed by Paraná with 17,000 tonnes, up 29.1%. Mato Grosso shipped 3,600 tonnes, an increase of 7.5%, while Minas Gerais exported 3,000 tonnes, down 11.8%.

ABPA president Ricardo Santin said the decentralization of shipments from China to other destinations, including the Philippines and higher value markets such as Japan, continued into 2026. He said the January record points to another positive year for exports.
