Bavarian Farm Provides Feeding for 750 Sows

GERMANY - A new farm in German Bavaria for 750 breeding sows was opened in early November. The complete project was delivered turn-key by Graakjaer.

Seven Nedap ESF (Electronic Sow Feeding) stations, connected to two central separation units, provide individual feeding for 405 gestating sows. The central separation units enable a layout that provides strict deviation between entrance and exit of the feeding system.

On behalf of Nedap, Mr A. van Brandenburg congratulates Carsten Ringeling from Graakjer on the completion of the project.

This ensures better animal behaviour and less stress. The area used for activity is thereby limited.

Automatic heat detection completes the automatic control of the gestation area. Every sow is regularly checked on her behaviour towards the boar. Nedap Velos recognises the early stage of heat, providing the sow with a colour mark and the farm manager with a remark on that sow.

Appointed Nedap dealer, Stefan Bossen Stalltechnik from Leck, was responsible for the installation of the ESF system. For years, the company has build up experience, providing good advice and service to larger sow operations.

An increasing part of the larger sow operations choose ESF as their feeding system for gestating sows. Feed prices and production level of sows have made individual sow feeding a necessity. In addition, Nedap ESF requires a relatively low investment.
