DENMARK - During the first six months of this year the use of antibiotics by Danish pig producers increased 12 per cent, according to a report by the Danish Technical University.According to the Danes, the increase is the result of more young pigs on units during the first half of the year as a result of a 6-7 per cent increase in sow numbers.
According to the report, during 2008 and during the first six months of this year there was a decrease in the use of ‘critical’ antibiotics ie. those that are important for the treatment of humans.
