A recent training initiative in Vietnam aimed to enhance food safety research within the pork value chains by equipping 12 veterinary officers from various provinces with advanced skills, according to a news release from the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI). 

The training, jointly organised by ILRI and the Vietnam National Institute of Veterinary Research (NIVR), focused on Salmonella isolation methods and microbiological sampling techniques at pig slaughterhouses and pork shops. This effort is part of the CGIAR Initiative on One Health, a project spanning from 2022 to 2024 that seeks to address the interconnections between human, animal, and environmental health.

By harmonising laboratory techniques and bolstering knowledge, the training ensures standardized and dependable results for crucial food safety endeavors. The participating veterinary officers, drawn from partner institutions of the CGIAR Initiative on One Health, gained both theoretical insights and practical experience, fostering their ability to contribute effectively to food safety research in Vietnam's pork industry.
