The report concludes there is a short and medium term structural deficit in manufacturing and retail pork that needs to be filled. Offal is also in demand. The potential for exports of British pig genetics is now very good with the UK leading a competitive field. In the medium to long term, Romania will probably emerge as a major producer of pigs meat in its own right with Smithfield Foods using its base to export to Western Europe.
