Comparing PCR and Serology for PRRS Virus Detection in Boar Studs

The detection rate for porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV) RNA varied depending on the sample type and virus isolate used under the conditions of this study at Iowa State University. Serum and blood swabs had the best overall performance with the highest detection rates and agreement between kits. Testing pooled samples compromised detection rates when low positive samples were included.
